The groove is on with a whole new edge and sound that has grabbed the attention of many worldwide with much praise and support for a band that looks set to create an explosive ripple in the stream of the music industry.
If you want to be apart of Lacuna Coil's upcoming dvd, you've got to upload videos to you tube channel that has to do with Lacuna Coil or Karmacode.
I had made my peace about cancelling their Australian Tour... until I read this :
"As most of you know we're at home right now writing songs for our new album. However, we're also working on something else very special as well – and we want YOU to be a part of it…"
I know a way I could've been apart of it... oh, I don't know, lets say be part of your audience?!?!?!??!. Ok, now that I've put that out there, I'm officially over it.
Ok, so the title might be a little harsh, but still, apparently the new AC/DC album will be released exclusively through Wal-Mart Stores Inc.. Because we don't have any Wal-Mart's in Australia, I have no idea what that means for us. I'm assuming one of the large chains is probably affiliated with them...
I guess it's a profitable decision for them? But it's a little anti-rock for my liking. I thought rock was against the man and major corporations. Not making a deal with them and totally screwing independant retailers...
My Chemical Romance are about to release their new DVD The Black Parade is Dead and have put a sneak peak up over at Buzznet. Urgh. Yes, they put up that song. But still two words. Bob's Drumkit. (Or is it three?). Wow. It fucking revolves. That's cool.
There's also some competition or something but every comp seems to be US only I didn't even bother looking into it. That and I refuse to sign up to buzznet. Don't quote me on that last thing tho....
Yet another large retail music store is shutting its doors. The Times Square Virgin Megastore is closing down, following the demise of the HMV chain, the Tower Records chain and other Virgin Megastores.
It's now being said that independent retailers will benefit hugely from this,
"The major labels and impersonal chain stores are together collapsing under the weight of their own excesses, but it is interesting to see the swing back to independent retail."
I'd really like to see the independent retail figures spike with the closure of "big business" but couldn't it also mean that people are using online downloads instead of stores altogether (i'm counting both legitimate (ie, itunes) and illegitimate (p2p) sources..)
I know myself, that I'd much rather buy from an independent store than from a large chain, but somehow I'm thinking that independent retailers aren't immune from closing down as well (yeah, I know, apparently Skinny's has reopened, but their website is still down and I don't get into the city often to see for myself...)
Anyway, it's an interesting read, even if it seems to be a little rose-coloured for independents, see the full article here.
In the footsteps of Trent Reznor (and others), Tori Amos has also vowed to release her next works independently.
I think it's fantastic that artists are doing this, but I think there's a backswing of downsides for "the little artists". You see, if the record company start thinking that after pouring masses of money gaining exposure for artists, that the artist is just going to leave them when they have enough of a fan base to support them, then why are they going to even try to promote bands in the first place?
Yes, it's a toughie. But hopefully it'll just shake up the dodgy record companies and make them think twice about screwing artists around.
If you're like me and annoyed when festivals never make it to your country *cough cough*, then you can at least live the excitement through your speakers.

.. and not just guys and eyeliner. He posted a poll on his blog* about what people hate about MTV. Because, it really needs an official poll to work out why MTV suck...
He then posted a follow up post, saying "i could only assume that you would be completely frustrated with the same things i am with mtv. it is a network called music television that does not play music videos. and when they do play videos it is in
30 second clips on TRL or underneath the credits of whatever reality show." It goes on, but that's the gist.
Anybody that has MTV has to agree, they never play music! I love going to friends houses, most of them have pay tv. (I'm poor. I don't even have a phone! HA!) Four (or more) channels of music, and ONE of them may be actually broadcasting music. And that music usually sucks.
I don't even bother checking MTV because it's always some dating show (as much as I love Next and Date My Mom) but they should make some other channel like DTV (Dating TV) or RTV (Reality TV) because this so-called "Music TeleVision" just isn't happening...
* Unless it's part of some insider joke, thats such a lame address. Oh, and you might wanna put on sunglasses or something before visiting that site too....
Wow. Channel [v] have absolutely got me so freakin' excited I can't help myself. They're dedicated (wait for it), not a quarter but a whole half hour of metal videos!!!!! Not only that, but apparently it warranted an email about it. AND the link spits you at the Dave Grohl open letter. Hrm. Perplexing....
"If you, like the one and only Dave Grohl, love heavy metal - check out Channel [V] @ 7:30pm Tuesday 13 May - we're playing a special half-hour dose of prime time metal."
I'm a little worried that they think that Metallica are heavy metal. Don't get me wrong - I'm a Metallica fan, I'm just going to be really disappointed if they fill the half hour with Metallica. Or that kind of music. Even those stupid shows Saturday morning occasionally play Metallica once in a while. It'd be good to see clips that always get pushed to the 3:30am slot on rage every couple of months.
I guess anything is better than nothing though right?
